How can digital art take shape in the physical world?
The Phygitals were designed to create a physical embodiment of digital artworks originally painted on canvas and now residing on the blockchain as part of artist Yadegar Asisi's first digital art collection, Canvas Legacies. The goal was to seamlessly integrate art and technology into a unique object that reflects both mediums.
Both the digital compositions and the technical setup were developed entirely in-house. The device consists of a Pimoroni Hyperpixel Square display, powered by a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 microcontroller, mounted on a bespoke acrylic base. This custom-made, plug-and-play device brings to life six works of digital art, presenting vibrant topographies of colour that reveal the portraits of six Impressionist pioneers.
The result is a bespoke object that bridges the gap between physical and digital outputs, offering an alternative way of experiencing and offering digital art as an exclusive asset.
